Description

Teal Blue Stone Hand-Carved Guanyin Bodhisattva Amulet with 1000 heads and hands

This is a very rare Guanyin pendant from Sri Lanka that we were lucky to find hidden away at a tiny shop run by an old Thai Buddhist guy. He had some rare and never seen Thai amulets and petrified wood Buddha statues that were too big to send through the mail, so we couldn’t buy them. They were reasonably priced too! If you’d like one and you live in Thailand, let us know, and we can get it for you. Otherwise, we cannot send Buddhas larger than 5cm out of Thailand through the mail. It’s the law.

In this same style, we have a tea-colored stone Guanyin that is very similar to the one you see here. We have a Gwan Yin in another style, and we have a Ganesh hand-carved in a similar style as that one.

The one we’re selling on this page is a teal blue-colored hand-carved stone Guanyin with 1000 arms.

We don’t know the rock/gem this is made from. It is a dark teal, not as bright as the images show. We lightened them to show the detail. When held to the face, it is quite cool – just like jade would be. There are swirls of white in the pink, so we just aren’t sure.

Kyanite? Sodalite? We wish we knew.

This one was sourced from our friend at Wat Mahathat. As usual with his really good finds, this one was under piles of other amulets we had to search through to find. We bought 3 amulets from him two days ago.

Guanyin is the GODDESS OF COMPASSION in Chinese Buddhism, and she is revered as a Bodhisattva – enlightened one. Guanyin is a VERY popular figure in Thai Buddhism, but also across China, Vietnam, Burma, India, and Sri Lanka.

This Guanyin also has high detail – and it’s quite easy to see what the figure is – Guanyin with many arms and heads facing the four directions of the earth – to show all knowledge – enlightened as a Bodhisattva. We added a side photo to show some of the detail that is caught in the side lighting.
