Description
We visit the Wat Tham Seua temple often because it is fairly close to our home in Krabi, Thailand. We see all they have on display and we ask other monks if they know of any nice pendants that might be for rent (sale). So we found some good ones.
Then occasionally we’ll see something far back on a shelf, maybe it fell out of the box or other display container it was in… and we strike gold. Finding this pendant was like striking gold. This was one of the first pendants released by Ajahn Jamnian’s temple, and we have never seen another like it anywhere.
It is at least forty years old – a monk at the temple told us. Exactly how old, I don’t know. I would like to ask Ajahn Jumnien when he returns, but I think this pendant will be purchased before then. Luang Por Jamnian has been a monk for over 60 years.
The front of this pendant features Ajahn Jamnian sitting in his saffron-colored monk robe with a gold circular aura behind his head which is actually a smaller Dharma wheel than the one on the reverse side. Ajahn Jamnian’s likeness is created with smooth gold lines, really masterful as it’s a minimalist approach to creating his image.
The background is black. Phra Jamnian’s flowing robe appears to go on beyond the confines of the bottom of the amulet.
The body of the pendant – the base, is stainless steel. On top of that is what I think is 14K gold highlights.
The front of the pendant says, in Thai language in the robe area in gold, Phra Jumnien. Some people in different countries spell his name Jamnian Seelasetho.
There is a small eyelet for a necklace which someone has apparently worn for a number of years.
The reverse side of this rare pendant features a larger red Dharma wheel on a bright gold background. This is covered with a coating of resin, which, protects the Dharma wheel red and structure perfectly.
The reverse side at the top says in Thai, “Tum Sua” or as is usually spelled, “Tham Seua” which means Tiger Cave (reversed for Thai). At the bottom of the reverse side of the pendant, it says, “J. Krabi” – as in Jangwat Krabi. Meaning, the town of Krabi, Thailand.
All of Ajahn Jumnien’s pendants are considered excellent for good luck, health, and protection.
Ideal gift for someone who knows who Ajahn Jamnian is, and for someone who would like a keepsake that likely will not be found again. A must-have pendant for any serious collector of Ajahn Jamnian Seelasettho’s amulets.
