Description
This is one very rare Somdej Buddha amulet in the Wat Larn Kuat Collection from Northeastern (Isan) Thailand. This is a unique handcarved amulet from the temple we picked up in 2009 and we don’t seem to have put it on the store! I think my husband was going to keep it, but honest, we have too many things to keep.
This is handcrafted from petrified wood that is millions of years old (ไม้กลายเป็นหิน) from Wat Lahn (Larn) Kuat in Northeast Thailand. This collection consists of amulets made from White Jade, brown, and black petrified wood. You can look, but you will not find anything like this in any other temple. We actually bought everything they had.
This Very Rare Brown Petrified Wood Somdej Buddha Amulet is said to be a powerful piece, cherished for both its rarity and spiritual significance. Somdej amulets are among the most highly sought-after in the Thai Buddhist tradition, known for offering immense protection, good fortune, and spiritual blessings to their holders.
This amulet carries the grounding energy of nature, fossilized over millions of years, merging the ancient with the sacred. The petrified wood’s unique brown hue adds to its rarity, making this amulet not just a powerful spiritual tool, but a rare collectible that connects deeply with both nature and the divine.
The Somdej Buddha, depicted in this amulet, is believed to hold unparalleled protective powers, often referred to as the “King of Amulets” in Thailand. Wearing a Somdej amulet brings not only personal protection but also helps to enhance one’s meditation, mindfulness, and spiritual awareness.
Traditionally blessed by highly respected monks at the Maharat temple in Sisaket, Thailand, these amulets are considered to have the ability to ward off danger and misfortune, while attracting positive energy and good karma. This Somdej Buddha Amulet is a rare and potent embodiment of these qualities, offering its wearer a profound spiritual connection and lifelong protection.
Please note – the amulet has more brown color than is shown in these images. In person, when you look at it, you’ll see the difference. :)

Rare Petrified Wood Somdej Buddha Pendants Description
Somdej Toh originally created several Buddha pendants with a very unique style that has been in demand for scores of years. As a tribute and because the style is so lovely, monks of modern times recreate the style and add their own ideas.
This Somdej-style Buddha representation is just like one of the original Somdej styles. However, the lotus-shaped pendant is different.
How different?
It’s made of very old brown petrified wood and carefully crafted to match Somdej Amulets.
The reverse side of this rare gem is inscribed with the temple’s symbol at the top and an abbreviated Thai writing – for Wat Lahn Kuat. The date is either 2547 or 2548. This is in Buddhist years, so 2548 corresponds to the Christian year of 2005. These pendants were all crafted during those years as they were building the large solid white jade seated Buddha statue for the temple in the main Bot.
